Liftoff

At 12:30 p.m. today the Wisest Man in the Universe, my dad, achieved liftoff...It was beautiful and peaceful and in every way just as I'd promised him it would be that day we crossed the Neuse River bridge...

Oh, we loved him swell, we did...and we always will.

So it has happened at last. I'm so relieved for him and for you and for your entire family Nancy. You know I've just hugged you tight in my mind, right?

Kim, I knew you were hugging me! I could feel it. Tonight I went out to his boat, just at sunset, and sat there remembering how amazingly lucky I am to have been loved by him. My heart is so full. I have so many stories to tell in tomorrow's blog...I am just overwhelmed with the beauty of this entire process...and hey, if it weren't for him, I wouldn't have met you!!

Hi Nancy..we want to say how sorry we are to hear about your dad. When we met him last September, we thought "what a swell guy". I guess he is not the last person in line now...Love, Robyn & Louise

I was directed to your blog from Kim, who recently visited my blog through a mutual friend, yada yada. That's why I love the blogworld so much ... you meet people through people, and you never know what to expect.

Anyway, I'm just beginning to go back and read your blog. My pop died of cancer four years ago this October 10. He was a mere 51 years old. We went through the whole hospice thing too. He was my best friend.

What you've done with this blog makes me wish I could go back and do the same as I was going through everything with my dad. I'm sure it was, and still is, very therapeutic for you.

All my best to you and your family. Send a message your dad's way to find the nearest bowling alley up there and ask for a big, bearded, smiling Polack named Rob. I'm sure he'd be happy to show your dad around.

Since I read 'The Wisest Man in the Universe' you have had me hooked. I am so sorry for your loss, and excited for the relief you must finally feel. It is only now that you can begin to set your life back to normal knowing that where ever it is that he went, he is probably laughing at what an experience all of it has been.

Oh, he's laughing all right...and I hope he's resting. He busted his ass for an eternity taking care of everyone but himself. Well, before he goes giving God Thursdays off to play golf, I hope he takes a nice long vacation. It has been such a joyous and yes, tiring, journey...but I wouldn't have missed this time for anything!

Oh, Jeff...a fellow traveller. Isn't it amazing to have best friend fathers. Bowling, eh...I bet the big man'll be up for anything fun. He's an adventurous sort. Thanks for stopping by. Your comment means a lot and it is so comforting to find such like minded friends!
